What Happened to PG 13 Comedies?

As a 90’s kid growing up comedies didn’t have to be R rated and vulgar to be great. If you have ever listened to our podcast you know we don’t have a problem with a lot of profanity, but this is still a question that needs to be asked.

First off let’s name some comedies of the 90’s that were PG-13 and classics… 'Dumb & Dumber' , 'Ace Ventura' 1&2, 'Nutty Professor', 'Austin Powers', 'Son in Law', 'Happy Gilmore' and 'Tommy Boy'. In my opinion two of the top five comedies ever (Dumb & Dumber/Tommy Boy) were not rated R.

Now let’s look at 5 new PG-13 comedies in the last 3 years…. 'Central Intelligence', 'Daddy’s Home', 'Ride Along', 'Pitch Perfect' and 'Going in Style'. I know... they suck! What the hell happened? Don’t get me wrong I love R rated comedies, but there is something unique and creative about making a movie a 13 year old and a 28 year old should both find funny. Hey Hollywood you don’t have to say "Fuck" for a movie to be fucking funny!
