March Movies Have Been Lit!

When I was a kid in the 90's (the best time to grow up we can fight about it if you want) I can vividly remember asking my mom what movies were coming out during the Summer so I could not only look forward to stuffing my face with popcorn, but could bank on McDonalds doing a sick cross promotion with the respective movies.

As we sit here, in March of 2017, it's becoming apparent that the "Summer Movie Season" is extending further and further into the Spring...and I effing love it. Think back to last year when Deadpool kicked off the tentpole films with it's debut in February. Now we're sitting here (still freezing my balls off in NYC) before baseball season has even started and we're already looking at blockbusters.


Personally, I've been blown away by the quality of movies, and the diversity of the film slate this early into the year. We had "Split" which set the tone even before the Oscars hit by giving us what will undoubtedly be one of the best performances of the year.


Then "Get Out" basically said suck on this Oscars because while you can award some great movies, there's one sitting right at your local theater right now jah feel? Even though we're only three months in, I think this film might be one of the biggest surprises of 2017 when it's all said and done.


Things really got turnt when "Logan" popped it's claws just a few weeks ago giving us what is in my opinion a top five comic book movie of all time. Consider it the "Deadpool" of this first quarter of the year in the sense that it showed us people will still flock to Superhero movies (and R-rated ones at that) even earlier then they have previously been released.


Lastly (at the time of me writing this because we still have Beauty and the Beast, Power Rangers, and Ghost In the Shell) Kong Skull Island pounded it's chest at the box office this past weekend to great results. Even more impressive, it dethroned Logan which I thought was going to have some serious legs at the box office.


Are movies just getting more awesome in general? How spoiled are we? Or is this type of depth in a years movie slate actually hurting the movie industry in some ways? Shout at us and let us know.
