Celebrating 250 Episodes of the Bro Force Squad Podcast

On September 24, 2016 three friends all living in different places decided to get shitfaced and watch Captain America: Civil War while Skyping each other. They ended up recording it because they wanted to hear all the dumb shit they said about it the next day. The world has never been the same...and we're sorry for that.

As Tony Stark says in the horrendous Iron Man 3, "you start with something pure, something exciting..." which is exactly what this podcast was. I know there is a joke that a group of three or more white men is called a podcast, and you're not wrong. The Bro Force Squad began as a way for friends who were separated across the country by circumstance to stay in touch, and discuss their favorite thing, movies. It has become over the near decade since something that I treasure and have more fun with than I could have ever imagined.

We joke on the pod that even if no one listened we would still do it, and I firmly believe that. The pride we take in knowing that we have something that we can share with each other and whatever other people enjoy listening is a joy in life, and those feel important to hang onto when you find them.

Bryan Banner of our podcast said it well when he told the Bros "250 episodes and nine years later have come out of this with a built in excuse to be dumb and hang out with my best friends every week even though we all live in different states. It is so easy to grow apart from friends when you live far away, and I am so thankful to have this medium with my dudes."

Rony Seikaly who is our legal counsel referenced the early days of our pod and recording from Banner's lab. The greatest debate we've ever had over the Mighty Ducks in D2 and where they actually slept...on campus or off??? Greatest rant in the history of the pod, also a Rony Seikaly gem when he gets placed on an FBI watch list for threats made to Kevin McCallister's Uncle on our Home Alone movie commentary. If we have anything from the past nine years it's these memories and the dozens more that are encapsulated forever.

I will wax poetic more on this topic when we have our ten year anniversary about a year from now, but this movie podcast is something I'm proud of, but not in the vain or brazen way, but from the standpoint of it started as an idea, and we have been lucky enough to continue to use it as an avenue to cultivate friendship and community while acting like fucking idiots a few times a month. It's like a small business that doesn't actually do any business, except the business of making us happy and maybe every once in awhile making you guys laugh.

Thanks to anyone reading this for supporting us in any way the past nine years. If you've only listened to eleven seconds of our podcast we are still pumped to have you, and sorry that only about three of our 250 episodes have been good. Those three are absolute bangers though. See you guys at the movies! We will be the ones sneaking beers in our pants, but buying a large popcorn because we do still support our local theater. Here's to 250 more episodes!
